Comments: I'm too young to remember the war directly. But I feel I owe a debt of gratitude to all those who served in Operation Pedestal and indeed all the convoys sent to Malta. My mother and grandmother were both on the island during this time, suffering the bombing and shortages. The success of pedestal didn't only bring that vital aviation fuel - it brought great hope to all on the island. My mother remembered standing in the crowd that assembled to greet the Ohio. She was about 6 at the time, but the memory of that happy event stayed with her for the rest of life. Come the remembrance services I pause for thought and remember you all for saving my mother.
Thank you.
